What happens in a class?
We do postures, yoga-style breathing, and relaxation. Class times and dates are shown below. Your first class is free, and if you like the class, I ask you to pay £30 for a 5-week block.
What do I need?
For your first class, just come along in clothes that let you move. We work in bare feet. You can borrow a mat.
What type of yoga?
In the UK, there are a number of styles of yoga class, the majority being based on the work of Indian teachers. (You may have heard of Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Sivananda yoga). Though fundamentally all yoga is the same, the classes vary considerably in nature. From my three decades of yoga experience I have found that a combination of styles is more suited for most people, so I provide a class containing postures, yoga-style breathing, relaxation, and an introduction to meditation. (Not all yoga classes provide these elements!).
What is the difference between yoga and Pilates or keep-fit exercises?
There are two key differences. Firstly, in yoga, the breathing is important: calm regular breathing. This helps to still the mind.
Secondly, there is a philosophy. Most people who do yoga don't follow the philosophy in depth, but it is something that is interesting to explore. Some examples of the philosophy are:
- not being obsessed by material possessions.
- non-violence.
Currently, I am not teaching any classes
